Laboratory Assistant - Laboratory Accessioning
Reporting to the supervisor of pre-analytical/post-analytical, assists in the verification, ordering and triage of specimens, understands and uses the Laboratory Information System (LIS), faxes/emails add/cancel requests to clients, contacts clients to remedy problem laboratory requisitions, investigates missing laboratory results, responds to inquiries made by laboratory Customer Service and assists with sending out referral lab test requests and specimens. Consistently adheres to laboratory policies for safety, conduct, and performances.
Essential Job Functions:
Accurately accession all specimens received and verify that all specimens are properly identified according to policy and procedures.
Process work completely and accurately, to include requisitions and any additional documents accompanying specimens, within departmental guidelines and time frame.
Maintains complete, accurate and up-to-date documents such as equipment logs and worksheets, such that information can be accessed immediately or in a timely manner.
Compile and print laboratory pending logs and analytical run-lists.
Fax/email add/cancel forms to clients to complete to add to requisitions and follow-up to ensure transmittal per policy and procedure.
Monitor email on a regular basis to for requests from supervisor, managers and Laboratory Reporting.
Order and document any test that must be sent out to a referral laboratory. Properly fill out test requisitions, label and log specimens, and monitor delivery of all send out testing requests.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
High School Diploma required. Phlebotomy training or previous medical experience a plus.
One year of general laboratory specimen accessioning experience. Clinical laboratory work environment preferred.
Strong data entry and organizational skills.
Comfortable handling biological specimens and working in a fast-past, zero-defect environment.
